Outdoor Activities & Sightseeing

  • Swimming: You can swim at the outdoor pool or at the beach (only 150 m). Lygaria beach is a fully organized pebble beach and is ideal for swimming and sunbathing.
  • Hiking and jogging: The surrounding area of Lygaria is ideal for hiking and jogging along the beach. 
  • Water sports and scuba diving: Do water sports at Lygaria beach and scuba diving at the nearby Agia Pelagia beach.
  • Visit Agia Pelagia and Mononaftis: Wander around the adjacent bays of Agia Pelagia and Mononaftis, which have fully organized sandy beaches, restaurants and cafés.
  • Visit Heraklion city: Visit Heraklion, which is just 16km away from Lygaria bay and is the largest city and economic center in Crete. There are many attractions in Heraklion. You can visit "Loggia", which is nowadays the Municipality House of Heraklion, the elaborate fountain known as the "Lions", the medieval monastery of "Saint Catherine", the Cathedral of "Agios Minas", the Archaeological Museum, the majestic "Koules" fortress, the Historical Museum, the huge "Venetian Walls" that surround the port of Heraklion, the Natural History Museum as well as many others, and of course the famous Minoan palace of "Knossos".   • Visit Matala: Visit one of the most famous parts of southern Crete, honored in the 60’s by the hippies, who made it a world point of reference
  • Visit Fodele: Visit the picturesque village in which the famous painter El Greco was born 
  • Visit Rethymnon: Visit the town of Rethymnon, which is about 80 km away, wander around the backstreets in the old town and gaze at the magnificent view of the Cretan Sea from the Fortezza fortress. More information at www.rethymno.gr

  • Visit Anogeia: For those who enjoy a mountainous landscape, there is a unique destination, the famous Anogeia village, which is located right at the foot of Psiloritis Mountain.
  • Visit Ierapetra and Chrissi Island: Επισκεφτείτε Drive to Ierapetra, from where you can take the boat to the busiest uninhabited island of Crete, "Chrisi", with golden sand beaches and the famous Cedar forest.
